The most effective way to maintain proficiency at home
Looking to push your flying skills to the next level? Our VFR proficiency pack is the perfect opportunity to do just that!
Over the course of a month, you’ll tackle four dynamic flight scenarios (on PilotEdge) that will test your abilities and help you grow as a pilot. These scenarios include simulated equipment failures, inclement weather, and complex airspace challenges that will keep you on your toes and fully engaged.
You’ll plan, fly, and debrief alongside one other pilot, engaging in scenario-based training and ground school review.
With a focus on practical learning and skill-building, our sim proficiency experience will challenge you to improve your aeronautical decision-making, situational awareness, and other skills.
Are you ready to take on the challenge and become a better pilot? Then don’t wait – sign up for our VFR proficiency pack today!
Is this for you?
This experience is meant for you if:
- You have at least a private pilot certificate & be familiar with US/FAA airspace procedures. Both rusty and current pilots are welcome.
- You use X-Plane 11/12 with a current PilotEdge subscription (ZLA area). To participate, you must already be fully proficient using your sim and PilotEdge.
- You fly single-engine piston aircraft
- You thrive on continual learning and improvement to become the safest, most proficient pilot possible.
Schedule
- Trial day: March 1 (a single flight scenario)
- Schedules for upcoming classes are TBD
Please note that there will be a mandatory technical check (generally no more than 20-30 mins) prior to the date of the event. This will allow us to ensure proper installation and functionality of your screen sharing, simulator, PilotEdge, and FSC Link software.
How each session works
Each session will consist of a different flight scenario. The two pilots will fly each flight simultaneously. Other pilots may sign up as observers and can ask the instructor questions.
Each session will be 2 hours long and consist of 3 parts:
- 30 minutes of briefing, reviewing flight planning, and knowledge review
- 60 minutes of flying
- 30 minutes of debrief, and knowledge review
About the flight scenarios
You will receive the flight scenarios prior at least 1-2 days prior to the event to allow you time for flight planning. For the legs which you are piloting, we ask you to have completed all flight planning ahead of time and be ready to start at the designated time.
Type of flights: Flights will be assigned between a variety of airspace types (including class B, C, D, and uncontrolled) and will generally have a distance of around 50 miles.
Initial conditions: Each flight must begin with the aircraft at a parking spot with the engine off. Aside from conducting an external preflight inspection, we expect you to complete all checklists and procedures exactly as if this were real life.
Weather conditions: We encourage you to use real-world weather conditions unless the weather does not permit you to make the flight according to your own personal minimums. In that case, you can customize the weather in your simulator as appropriate.
ATC: Flight scenarios will take place in the PilotEdge ZLA coverage area.
We aim for each scenario to include some kind of abnormal or challenging condition (such as an emergency, equipment failure, weather change, performance limitation, etc.). Our FSC Link plugin will be used to let the flight instructor remotely set surprise conditions to maximize the level of challenge.
About the flight instructors
The event will be led and instruction will be provided by one or more FAA-certified flight instructors.
