The Community Folder is the place on your computer where you can put third-party add-ons like new aircraft and scenery to make your sim more realistic and fun.
Let’s get you there, fast and hassle-free.
Easiest method for all systems
Step 1: Enter the Marketplace by clicking one of the areas shown below

Step 2: Click My Library in the upper left

Step 3: Click the small Settings icon (to the right of the search bar). Be careful to not click the larger settings icon in the very upper right corner.

Step 4: Press Open to open the community folder
Can you change the location of the community folder? Yes. In this same menu, you can specify a custom community folder location.
Alternative 1: Dev Mode
Load MSFS and follow these steps:
- Go to Settings→ General Options
- Turn on dev mode by clicking the Advanced Options tab and set Developer Mode to On. Now a new menu bar shows up on the top of the screen.
- In this menu, click Tools → Virtual File System
- Expand “Packages Folders”
- Press “Open Community Folder”
Notes:
- Once you have found the folder, be sure to create a desktop shortcut to it so you don’t need to repeat this process in the future.
- You can exit the developer mode by clicking (in the top menu bar) [Dev Mode] → Exit Dev Mode (currently not working as of December 2024), or simply deselecting the option in the Advanced Options tab
- Also, if you’re going to install an add-on in this folder, restart the simulator to ensure it’s loaded.
Alternative 2: Navigate Directly via Windows Explorer
If you prefer to navigate to the folder yourself:
- Open Windows Explorer
- Show Hidden Files (otherwise you won’t see the AppData folder)
- Then navigate to the below directory:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community
Replace “USERNAME” with your own Windows username.
