How to Find the Community Folder in Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS)

General Tips

The Community Folder is the place on your computer where you can put third-party add-ons like new aircraft and scenery to make your sim more realistic and fun.

The tricky part is that its location depends on how you installed MSFS.

Let’s get you there, fast and hassle-free.

Best method for all systems

Load MSFS and follow these steps:

  1. Go to Options General Options
  2. Turn on dev mode by clicking the Developers tab and set Developer Mode to On. Now a new menu bar shows up on the top of the screen.
  3. In this menu, click Tools Virtual File System
  4. Expand “Packages Folders
  5. Press “Open Community Folder

Notes:

  • Once you have found the folder, be sure to create a desktop shortcut to it so you don’t need to repeat this process in the future.
  • You can exit the developer mode by clicking (in the top menu bar) [Dev Mode] → Exit Dev Mode
  • Also, if you’re going to install an add-on in this folder, restart the simulator to ensure it’s loaded.

Alternative: Navigate via Windows Explorer

If you prefer to navigate to the folder yourself:

  1. Open Windows Explorer
  2. Show Hidden Files (otherwise you won’t see the AppData folder)
  3. Then navigate to the below directory

If you installed MSFS from the Microsoft Store

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_RANDOM\LocalCache\Packages\Community

Replace “USERNAME” with your own Windows username.

If you installed MSFS from Steam

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community

Replace “USERNAME” with your own Windows username.
