How to Release the Parking Brake in Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS Tips

If you’re ready to take off in Microsoft Flight Simulator but find yourself stuck in place despite adding power, you likely need to release the parking brake. This is a common issue for beginners that can be easily solved.

Quick Solution: Use Ctrl+Space

The fastest way to release the parking brake in MSFS is to use the keyboard shortcut:

In MSFS 2024: Ctrl + Space

In MSFS 2020: Ctrl + Num Del (this refers to the delete button on your number pad)

This will instantly toggle the parking brake on or off, allowing your aircraft to move freely when you apply throttle.

Alternative Method: Click the Parking Brake

If you prefer a more immersive approach, you can:

  1. Look down in the cockpit to locate the parking brake handle. In general aviation aircraft, it is typically found directly in front of the pilot. In airliners, it is more likely to be found on the center pedestal.
  2. Click directly on the parking brake to release it
  3. In some aircraft, you may need to toggle the yoke visibility by clicking on it first to see the parking brake

Tips for Troubleshooting

If you’re still unable to move after releasing the parking brake, check that you have:

  • Added sufficient throttle
  • Removed any wheel chocks if you started in walk-around mode

Remember that different aircraft have varying levels of power needed to start moving, especially on slopes or rough surfaces.
